Ministries

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Prayer shawls are hand made by members of St. Paul to be given to those who need comfort perhaps from illness or loss of a loved one. Shawls are in the narthex. You can take one for yourself if you need comfort or take one to give away. Cards are also available to be given with the shawls, explaining their purpose. CHAIR YOGA Chair Yoga, taught by Clarice Kumlien, is held every Monday morning at 11:30am in the Parlor. This is a class for all ages, designed especially for those who may have difficulty getting up and down from the floor. All stretching is done either sitting or standing. A donation of $2.00 is suggested. Signing up is not necessary. BOOK CLUB Do you long to find someone to share great books with? Our Book Club meets monthly to choose books from all genres to discuss. We are a flexible group as far as days that we meet, so please contact Kathy Mackey at secretary@stpaulhuntington.org or check the newsletter, if you are interested in joining us. Normally we meet on Thursdays at 10:30am. We love to have new people join us! HEALING SERVICE St. Paul Lutheran Church offers a Healing and Anointing worship once a month. During this service worshippers are invited to come forward to the altar rail for a prayer of healing, laying on of hands and anointing with oil. This prayer is used in the order of service: “Father in heaven, for Jesus’ sake, send your Holy Spirit upon your servant, (name of person); drive away all sickness of body and spirit; make whole that which is broken; deliver (him/ her) from the power of evil; and preserve (him/ her) in true faith, to share in the power of Christ’s resurrection and to serve you with all the saints now and evermore.” The church has for generations practiced this ancient order of healing, anointing and laying on of hands. This service is generally held on the third Wednesday of every month in September, October, November, January, April and May. SOUTHSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD The Southside Neighborhood Association meets at St. Paul monthly from September through May. Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 7:00pm in the Undercroft (basement) of the church. This group was formed to help the residents of the Southside area of Huntington get to know each other as well as hearing various speakers discuss relevant issues affecting the neighborhood. ST. PAUL QUILTER’S Our dedicated quilters meet each Tuesday at 9:00am in the church library to create quilts for various needs within the community such as Cridlin, flood victims, and Christmas baskets that are given out each year. No sewing or quilting skills are required. Help is always appreciated! BACKPACK MINISTRY St. Paul partners with Southside Elementary School to ensure that all students have access to food on the weekends. Each week we pack 13 backpacks with enough food to last the weekend. Many children do not have access to food when not in school. We are pleased to be able to help in this ministry. If you would like to donate items, please see the church newsletter for suggestions on what we need. Please contact the church office if you would like to help in delivering the backpacks.
